Maestrat It is a Spanish historical region that extends north of the Valencian province of Castellón and the southeast of the Aragon's province of Teruel.
Maestrat name derived from the term master, since these territories were under the jurisdiction of the Grand Master of the military orders of the Temple, San Juan and Montesa.
The Comandance of General del Maestrat as a military district was created in 1838, during the Carlist Wars.
In the province of Castellón, constitute the Maestrazgo three territorial boundaries demarcated in second grade, according to the Decree of the Valencian Government number 170 in October 28, in 1985, and colloquially assimilated to the regions of the Bajo Maestrat with its capital Vinaroz, with its capital at Albocacer ALT Maestrat and ports of Morella with its capital at Morella.
